Halloween fun!

Here's a quick look at our Halloween stations.  As you can see, the first station is not Halloween at all BUT totally fun!  We were practicing ways to "Make 10" with bingo dotters.  They Loved It!

The big "Math Ideas" we covered during stations these couple weeks were:
Counting Dimes and Pennies

Fact Families

Comparing Numbers

Counting base 10.
I also have ELA stations that I didn't get pictures of (because I went on a week long cruise)!
Check it out at my store!

And we did a little whole group "Mystery Number" Aka- Algebra for first graders.  I will refrain from station my opinion on this standard and how it applies to first graders, but by gosh, they will have it mastered by second grade, at the rate we practice it!

I just love my little photo bomber at the carpet! lol!

Skip counting fun!

So, I agreed to tutor this summer for the first time ever. Partly because I LOVED the little firstie and didn't mind meeting her this summer! When I was talking to my coworker before the school year was over we talked about what curriculum and resources we planned on using.

We talked about how easy it would be to just have dry erase strips for them to practice their skip counting.....and of course one thing led to another......
Don't you love to laminate!!!

after making ones for skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's I decided to make some for my daughter going into 3rd grade! So multiplication skip counting strips were the next thing on my list!

Peeps A Plenty!

So, I've been working for a while on some fun Easter activities and I'm finally done!

Here are a few before pics to see how it's done, lol!

Cut and cut and cut some more!

Then I took them all home and had my two little guinea pigs test them out for me! This was a lot of help for me! My oldest found 3 mistakes and I was able to edit them right there!

I laid all 12 of the activities out and told them to pic some they wanted to do.......My second grader sat there all afternoon and did all 12, proudly, lol!

"Jelly Beans For Sale" practices counting coins.

"Bunny Families" is where she was taking the bunny's 3 numbers and writing all the fact family number sentences for it.

My first grader loved "Egg Hunt Time" because she finished before her sister was done with her activity, and everything is a competition right now!

We used Tic-Tacs on "Special Order Peeps" to help us work on ABC order.  Best part was eating them after!

Next we worked on "Counting Peeps" where we put the peeps in counting order and wrote the patterns down.

My Second Grader said that "Flower Fragments" was the hardest.....because she actually had to think, lol!

Measuring and money!

We have introduced our official "measurement" unit in math with a little rainbow measuring.  My kids LOVE to use a ruler!  (Probably because we never use them!) So they were highly engaged! (Insert ROY G BIV mini lesson since they were such good listeners!)

I gave them Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Blue strips and we measured and cut strips decreasing in size by 2" each. We then measured each strip with cubes and compared the difference in totals when using two different sized units. (Math talk, blah, I know!)

Today we got REAL money to sort!  It's the little things in life that can perk up a lesson!  And of course, ANY chance to write on the table with dry erase will engage any student!

This is "Shopaholic".  The students practice double digit addition using dimes and pennies and grocery items on index cards. (So much easier and storage efficient to use clippings from the newspaper than empty boxes taped shut.)

Then we worked on "What's my word worth" adding up our spelling words.....This was a fun twist to practicing spelling words and incorporating math!
