Weather and MLK

I feel like I take pictures of the same stuff every year, but it's just so gosh-darn cute! Haha!
In January we study weather and seasons (a little more than you typical calendar time talk). We always start with the book "Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs" and talk about the weather man's job forecasting. Then we make our own weather forecast!

I love how some Martin's look a little Hispanic with the handlebar going on!

Habitats All Around!

Every year I usually develop a level of frustration at my small town status when looking for the perfect Habitat book.  I tell my self, as I dig and dig for ONE book that can introduce the idea of Habitats in a GENERAL way, that I need to just write one myself. HA! As a teacher, WHO has time for THAT?!  This was my third year to go to the public library looking for "the ONE" book describing Habitats.  Don't  get me wrong; there were tons of choices on individual habitats, from tundra, to rainforest, desserts, oceans and biomes etc. But, I always seem to run out of time towards the end of the year to do multiple read-alouds for this topic.  I need JUST 1!

Having expressed my "soap box" issues, I have just broken down and created a Power Point at a beginner level for my Firsties.  Since I am most likely not the only one who shares in my frustration of needing the perfect book but not having the resources at your fingertips, I wanted to SHARE this with you all!  WooHoo!

This is my first time sharing a PowerPoint slide so wish me luck! Not sure how it will turn out as a "Picture Slide show"

That's a Wrap!

Well, we are done! It was a wonderful year, full of adventure and laughs!

We ended with our big habitat presentation which is always my favorite!

We are getting ready to set up!

The black widow was so creative! This little guy used strings of glue from a glue gun as the spiders web!

This parrot was tied to a stick on the outside of the box so you could make the parrot "fly" by lifting the stick up and down.

This salamander was authentic looking! They sprayed him with PAM!

Field trip # 3.....nature center FUN!

Today was the big 10 count down!
Had to start it off with a bang! Or should I say "POP"!!
Now who can see the problem that I noticed VERY quickly!!!!

Ummmm....my projector screen! OMG! I moved the balloons pretty quick!
After our balloon count down we loaded up for another field trip!
We had a BLAST at the Nature Center today! Ms. Bunker is the best animal presenter ever! She made the kids laugh so much!
Ms. Bunker pulled out all sorts of fun animals for us to see!
Yes, that is me getting a bearded dragon placed on my head!
Mrs. Block did a "Wonder Woman" pose to get into snake mode!

I'm so partial to the skunk! Such a cutie! The kids almost died when she kissed him!

Life science! (And Easter Extras!)

Here is some of my Easter Packet in action with my class this year. They LOVED it!!!

These boys are working through "Jelly Beans For Sale" and they were so proud of themselves.

These girls were working through "Special Order Peeps" where they practiced
ABC order.

"Counting Peeps" was a fun way to find patters and order numbers.

Here they practiced using eggs as counters and they did "Missing Eggs" to find missing addends.
This little guy was such a ham! He loved getting his picture taken!

One of their favorites (and most challenging) was "Flower Fragments" where they matched sentence fragments to each other.

After Easter we started some of our life science fun! We worked on Living and Non Living first. WARNING! Don't let students use magazines unsupervised, HAHA!

The class LOVED making Habitat Diaramas!
